Last night I had a dream that the new Neal Stephenson book was coming out tomorrow (today). I guess in the real world, unlike my beautiful dream world, I'll have to wait like everyone else until September 9 to read Anathem.

I'm still making my way through the Alastair Reynolds oeuvre. I read all the books in the Revelation Space universe and have moved on to the one-offs. Last night I finished Century Rain which was a nice mix of alt-history, space opera, and detective story and started on Pushing Ice. If you couldn't tell, I really enjoy his books. They're just smart, pretty straight sci-fi. The revelation space stuff is kinda cool because it deals with intergalactic travel that is slower than light, so events take place decades (sometimes centuries) apart. To keep the story straight you really have to pay attention to the timeline (even though a couple of story arcs usually meet up at the end).

What do you think about Iain Banks? I had him recommended to me, but I wasn't all that impressed by Wasp Factory.

I read the Algebraist a couple of weeks ago and it's the only thing by him that I've read. It was pretty good but didn't kick my ass. He comes pretty highly recommended, though.

Yeah, he seems good but not great.

Don't read the timestamp on this one. Thx.
