Over the last couple of months, when I have a day or two in between other books, I've been reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy as few pages at a time. It is a damn depressing book. In addition to winning the Pulitzer, it was also part of Oprah's book club. I can't imagine what happened when suburban moms all when to B+N to pick up the new Oprah book and came back with McCarthy but I would like to have seen their faces when they read the line, "What the boy had seen was a charred human infant headless and gutted and blackening on the spit.'

i read that book in one sitting on a long trip on the boat in alaska. it just about killed me. i had no idea it was an OPRAH book. that probably freaked the shit out of most of suburbia and made for a quite a few new bomb/emergency shelters...

that part of the book was my least favorite and the quote i think of when trying to explain the book to anyone. *shiver*

Hell, you should have seen my face. I had to close the book for a few minutes after that part, although I should have seen it coming. I still thought it was a very enjoyable read.
